Meet Abraham Aiyash
“We need to fight for a politics of the possible. Back to ‘normal’ is noT and was never good enough.”
Hello!
My name is Abraham Aiyash, and I currently serve as a State Representative and Assistant Democratic Floor Leader in the Michigan House of Representatives.
I was born in Michigan, and rooted deeply in the Detroit-Hamtramck community where I grew up with my seven siblings. I’m the son of a union auto worker and learned from a young age the value of hard work, giving back and commitment to service.
Prior to serving in the House, I worked as a community organizer where I helped shutdown the Detroit incinerator and stood-up against the expansion of toxic waste sites along the Detroit-Hamtramck border. I also served as a nonprofit leader where I advocated for political change in the pursuit of dignity and justice for all.
In Lansing, I have fought tirelessly for working families and have introduced bold legislation that holds corporations accountable and challenges the status-quo that has failed to invest or make real long-lasting change in communities like Detroit and Hamtramck.
I have consistently prioritized the needs of residents and focused on the issues that matter to people across Detroit and Hamtramck: clean air and water, good paying jobs, secure retirements, and safe streets.
Our team has built a track record of being an unwavering voice for social, economic, and environmental justice; and for delivering results for the people of our district.
As the only legislator in the Michigan House or Senate who refuses to take corporate and lobbyist campaign contributions, I believe deeply in my responsibility to serve the public, not the wealthy or well-connected special interests. Count on my commitment to go to Lansing every day to serve you!
I am running for re-election in House District 9 because I still believe in a politics of the possible that gives everyone a fair chance at success. I would be honored to earn your vote on Tuesday, August 2nd.
We’re in this together,
Abraham Aiyash
